The classical method of Latin studies includes a persistent student, a dictionary, a lexicon (grammar rule book) and some passages to practice translating. Cassell’s Latin Dictionary is widely considered the best of its kind and so we recommend it for CC families studying Latin.
CC Tutors help Foundations’ families memorize Latin words, Latin word endings and Vulgate Bible passages because in the Challenge program students continue to memorize Latin words, endings and passages as they practice translating.
Since its first appearance in 1854 and through many subsequent revisions, Cassell’s Latin Dictionary has remained constant in its appeal to scholars. In 1977, the head of the Classical Department at Eton College, D. P. Simpson, revised the original dictionary and introduced fresh material from a number of sources.
